I think Miss MacGrammar is losing the plot, as the youngsters say – she has revived her old idea of putting soundproof boxes around each desk with a flap for permitted speaking operated by a button under her blackboard. Nick took the easy way out and told her quite firmly that there was no money in the budget, just as he told her before, but now I find she has persuaded some of the older elves to design and make the boxes themselves and I gather she has some sort of plan for fitting them! I can see her point, but it really won’t do. I think myself it is an over-reaction to a year of teaching Phizzy, Tingle’s brother who joined as a trainee Father Chistmas last year. He is rather troublesome, and it’s a pity his voice is so loud. After the episode when she put superglue on his chair to make him sit still, we did wonder if it wasn’t time she retired. Clearly I will have to have a word with both of them – Phizzy and Miss MacGrammar, that is. I think I shall point out to her that she did cope very well with Grumbo when she had him, and Phizzy is simply another challenge that I am sure she’ll rise to. The difficulty is that, actually, I am not sure she can any longer! He doesn’t mean to be difficult – he just gets carried away when an idea slips into his head and he forgets about everything else. Maybe Father Edmund can manage to make him see sense – he doesn’t play up with him – only truthfully, I think his mind wanders in her lessons because they can be, well, a bit boring, and he is only 75.
